Taipei Association for the Promotion of Women's Rights (TAPWR) has been established since 1994. It ultimate goal is to serve the female citizens of Taiwan and thus promote the gender equality. The main belief of the association is to educate women, promote feminism ideology, and advocate gender equality of the society, through which a brand new image of Taiwan female citizens could thus be established.
The recent work of TAPWR includes the followings:
- In order to keep a historical record of women in Taiwan, TAPWR has published The Tales of Gramma and The Disappearing Grammas in Taiwan, and has received the 1995 Creative Prize for Women Service by Taipei Social Welfare Bureau. In 1998 TAPWR has published The Tales of Mamm that is another book from taiwaness women's stories.
- Having held Adolescent Sexual Education Seminars designed for high school students in Taipei metropolitan area, TAPWR has received Women Education and Service Prize by Taipei Social Welfare Bureau. Tapwr has already held almost 100 sessions and has benefited over 100000 young students.
- TAPWR has also held community discussions for mothers concerning female health and prevention of females in marital violence. As a consequence, the association has received the 1996 Prize of Service for Women's Health by Taipei Health Bureau.
- Commissioned by the City Hall, TAPWR has been planning Female Community College, with the goal to provide women with opportunities to study and grow.
- TAPWR has held hotline for women health to help female citizens today protect their rights on health-care and medical service.
TAPWR is a private, non-profit organization (Reg. No. Taipei City S-1176). Our association has 6 full-time workers at present, and also many volunteers (including college and graduate students, housewives, teachers, etc.). The main financial source of the association is through donation, yearly fee, and subsidy of special project.
